The pursuit of knowledge
The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ~ Genesis 2:9
The temptation of man, we all know this story, we are living in it. I'm not sure what chapter of it we are on, but definitely last chapters.
If there's one thing I never understood about Adam and his wife Eve is as people who could live forever, in paradise, why did the serpent's advice to eat from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil seem sound. I don't think they were dumb, contrary to their reactions to their nakedness I believe that reaction was due to well, if you were naked because you know connotations around sex, and every other human aspect you know being naked isn't good. But children don't, now children aren't dumb, we all know that. So we can conclude they had some sense.
After they were "aware", the Lord made sure to prevent them from eating of the fruit. Lest they live forever in their sin. Which would be very terrible I might add. But looking back, I'd have loved the chance to ask Adam. "What the hell bro?", But alas.
Now, my purpose of this post isn't to rant about Adam, but to draw a parallel. This is something the Holy Ghost (rabatishishi :joy:) put in my heart a while ago. It took me this long because as usual, "busy-ness" (which is what I will talk on here), and some spiritual attacks.
We are the golden age of communication, you have probably talked more with your talking stage than your ancestors did with their wives. "Correspondence" as I like to call it, is at an all-time high. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Artificial Intelligence, you could learn how to build a rocket in an hour (you may not succeed), but you will know how. And for a world so connected, we are all the more disconnected, wars, social media wars, ethnic wars, tribal wars, nationality disputes, even having an android in a world of iPhones is a divide (I am not infected, I have both ecosystems, so take that you apple cultists).
And, from my perspective, it's because we are Adam. That story is a subtle foreshadow, remember when Pastors say, "The Devil isn't against you being disciplined, he is against your worship" so even if you are the Mahatma Gandhi of the world, he don't mind, but get on your knees and pray? Now we have a problem.
I as a workaholic (poverty go brrrr) always say, "I have work", "I need to perfect this". That's usually my disconnect from the Word. and like Adam I leave the Tree of Life to go for "Knowledge".
It's rather sad, as Jesus tells us, He is the way. Those that give up their lives, shall gain it and those that hold onto it shall lose it. Like how idiotic it seems for Adam and bae to leave the tree of Life for the tree of knowledge we do the same. How often do you open TikTok instead of your Bible, you may think, oh, entertainment. But you are there to know. Know what others are doing, the latest trend, know how to entertain yourself. At the cost of Life. How often do we leave the tree of Life, and seek knowledge.
don't get me wrong, not saying stay in the Bible every second (not saying don't either). but which apple are you eating? the one that gives you life or the one behind your phone. or even worse, both? while convincing yourself you eat the life-giving one more.
No one likes lukewarm water, uyake uzame ukugeza ngamanzi akhudumalayo. It's so anticlimactic. You lose the benefit of a cold shower, and also lose the benefit of hot water running down your body. uyabe uyenza nje. which water are you?
this is usually where people give advice, but not me. I am a demotivational speaker. you stay safe though. and ponder on this
